Yellow Band

For the yellow band you will need:

1: To use capital letters and full stops correctly in most of your writing.

Use TCP to help. Read through your work OUT LOUD. Where you pause there MUST be either a Terminator (. ! ?), a Conjunction (and, but, because etc…) or some other form of punctuation to mark the Pause (, ; : -)

Reading your work aloud is useful because you know where you mean to pause-if there’s none of the TCP when you pause, it’s up to you to decide what’s best. HINT: commas are best avoided at this point-always ask youself if a full stop or conjunction can be used.

2: Use 3 adjectives.

This is easy if you can spot a noun in your writing (They’re everywhere-anything you can see, touch, hear or feel is a noun). Just pick a word or two that describes the noun-that’s an adjective!

The trees swayed in the breeze.

The bold words are both nouns, so I could pick words to describe them to help the reader build a picture of them in their head. The gnarly trees swayed in the frosty winter breeze. Simples.

3: Don’t use the conjunctions ‘and’, ‘but’, ‘because’, ‘so’ and ‘then’ more than once in a sentence.

It can be hard, once you start writing, to stop your sentences, but if you keep extending your sentences with conjunctions the reader will run out of breath and the meaning of your writing gets muddled. Just use them once in a sentence then use a full stop!

That’s what you need to do to get on the first rung of Ninja greatness!
